Prospects & promises

Caleb, my 5-year-old, was promised a toy on Monday.

He had been anticipating this for a while.

So when I dropped him off at school, it was the last (and the topmost) thing we had talked about that morning.

Of course, when I picked him up, it was the first thing he asked about as well.

Instead of giving him the toy when I got home, imagine if I first:

  1. Kept him on hold for a few minutes
  2. Promised him a bigger toy if he did more chores right then
  3. Asked him to listen patiently to my offer that could get him more toys every year

But I had promised him a toy and gave him the toy.

And in return, he gave us the biggest 😄 in all of Frisco, TX that day.

Takeaway

When it comes to your brand promise, don’t make prospects jump through hoops if you want them to jump with joy.

P.S. I should have asked him if he would refer me to other kids as a good dad, using a Net Promoter Score rating system!

How are you ensuring your brand keeps its promise to your prospects? I’d love to know!

Promises are like crying babies in a theater, they should be carried out at once.
