Trumpet Social

Musk and Twitter are in the news again, for the 145th time this year.

Suddenly out of the blue last week, Musk fired a shot at Donald Trump’s social media platform Truth Social, calling it a “rightwing echo chamber”.

And then, the marketer in him let one more rip.

“It might as well be called Trumpet,” Musk said.

Sure, Musk was insulting Trump, but he also felt the need to give Truth Social a better brand name.

He didn’t refer to it by its function (Truths) or industry (Social Media) as the brand owners did.

Instead, he connected it to Trump and the act of Trump’s followers trumpeting what Trump says.

The big difference is that he connected the app’s brand name to Trump’s brand name.

Takeaway

It’s called a brand name, not a brand descriptor.
It needs to be called by a name, not an explanation of what it does.

If you had to rename Truth Social, what would you call it? Share with me here.

If you don't give the market the story to talk about, they'll define your brand's story for you.
