Knock, knock

Liz Willits is a wonderful marketer whose post on LinkedIn last week knocked a lot of sense into people who don’t take their branding seriously enough.

The wise marketer conveyed her wisdom with a wisecrack that went like this:

Knock, knock.

Who’s there?

My business.

My business who?

Exactly. Nobody knows! You didn’t invest in branding.

Liz is loving and lethal at the same time with this deadly joke.

An occasional brand may go viral without investing in its branding.

But 99% of brands are subject to reality and the rules of marketing, which state that your brand’s visibility, appeal, and success are directly proportional to your investment in its branding.

The greatest mystery of marketing is how only a few brands really understand branding or how to leverage it.

Even many marketers miss this point completely. Some even talk about it but eventually do nothing about it.

I’m glad Liz is trying to knock some sense into our heads, but what’ll you do about it?

Takeaway

If you don’t invest in branding, it’ll knock your brand out.

This is NOT a joke.

Let me know how you’ve taken branding seriously for your brand.

Your brand is the single most important investment you can make in your business.
