Most inbound marketing isn’t really inbound because most organizations are trying to disguise outbound sales as inbound marketing.
While Googling for something, I found a couple of interesting articles and opened them in new tabs to read them.
By the time I got to the first tab, I was faced with a pop-up ad asking me to subscribe to the weekly blog or opt out by acknowledging that “I don’t like saving money”.
I don’t subscribe in such cases because:
- I don’t even know who the heck I’m subscribing to since the pop-up covers the whole page and the logo on the top left
- I haven’t read even a single post to know if I want more
- I’m being rushed into a transaction I didn’t ask for
If you can’t let me read one post in peace, why do you even want to offer a free article?
And don’t be a smartie and equate “I’m not interested” with “I don’t like saving money”.
Takeaway
It’s clear that you don’t trust inbound marketing but want me to trust your blog.
How are you inviting people to subscribe to your blog? Write back and let me know.
