Bye bye, Seth Godin
Thu, Oct 08, 2020
I finally unsubscribed from Seth Godin’s daily blog.
For 10+ years, I tried to start the day with my Bible followed by Seth’s blog because Seth was a God(in) the marketing world.
But in the last year, Seth’s blog has lost its strength, maybe its focus, and definitely one subscriber – me.
I discussed this with my marketing peers and found that many of them shared the same view.
Here’s why some of us left:
- If he had 4–5 hits a week, it’s now down to 1–2
- He deviates a lot from the core focus – marketing
- He now sells a lot more than he markets
- His posts are rarely relevant. Something was happening every week in 2020, but you wouldn’t know that from his blog.
This probably happens with scale given that thousands of subscribers learn from Seth every day.
But now I’m learning a lot more from certain marketers on LinkedIn who share amazing insights daily.
It’s not that Seth’s posts are bad. It’s just that the others are better.
Takeaway
- Marketing
- How we learn marketing
- Whom we learn it from
If you follow Seth’s blog, what’s your take? I’d love to know.
