If practice, then preach
Thu, Apr 29, 2021
Last week, a call with a prospect helped me do some internal introspection that I believe is in order for all marketers.
She asked me if we could help her redesign her website.
“I can, but first can you let me know your take on our website?”
“It’s good. I’d be happy with something like that.”
“I can only teach and preach what I can practice. I can’t give you a website that is 10X better than ours.”
“Amen, that’s refreshing to hear.”
Should that be refreshing? Shouldn’t that be the standard?
We didn’t have a website for some time, but we still helped many clients develop highly converting websites that are still working well today.
I understand and have lived the reality that it’s not necessarily possible or ideal to have your own website on day one.
However, when we finally got to our website, we had to ensure that it would not portray us as hypocrites or snake oil salesmen.
An accountant with bad numbers and a marketer with a poor web presence are not to be trusted.
Takeaway
Do you practice what you preach or preach what you don’t practice? Tell me which side you fall.
