Abraham Lincoln’s life shows how it’s possible.

1832: Honest Abe lost his job so he tried to get elected to the state legislature but lost that election, too. He then volunteered for war and went in as a captain but came back as a private.

1833: He tried his hand at business but failed there, too.

1835: His sweetheart died, leaving him destroyed.

1836: He suffered a nervous breakdown as a practicing lawyer.

1838: He was defeated in the race to be Speaker of the House.

1843: He was defeated in his first nomination for Congress.

1848: He lost the renomination as well.

1849: He was rejected for a land officer’s post.

1854: He lost a U.S. Senate race.

1856: He was defeated for nomination to the vice-presidency.

1858: He lost the next U.S. Senate race.

1860: He was elected as the U.S. President and soon ended up saving the nation.
