Bluff master
Wed, Dec 16, 2020
When I was 15, I was on a long train ride where a fellow passenger introduced me to the card game, Bluff.
The 3-day trip saw me beaten 200+ times, but by then I had mastered the game.
You win this game by bluffing – keeping some cards down and saying they’re all of one suit (say, 3 Jacks) while the cards could be of any suit.
If someone calls your bluff and you get caught, you have to take back your cards.
If they call your bluff incorrectly, they keep your cards.
The first one to dump all their cards wins.
Most people don’t win at bluff because they don’t do what the game tells them to do – bluff – and hence dump cards slowly.
They rarely bluff because they worry about failing if someone calls their bluff.
If we don’t make mistakes, we’ll never learn what we could’ve achieved.
Fear of failure is genuine but embracing it is our best – and sometimes only – chance to master it.
Takeaway
Tomorrow, I’ll share the story of a man who made a million mistakes but eventually won a war for millions.
