Inbound irony
Wed, Oct 21, 2020
Inbound marketing must be feeling the irony.
Last week, I got a message on LinkedIn.
It was similar to many other messages I receive about how I can get 10–15 inbound ‘call bookings’ every month, which promise to translate into 1 new client on average.
I ignored the message but got pinged again.
I refused politely, but I thought I’d take a screenshot of this message to defend the honor of inbound marketing.??

So here are my questions and thoughts to anyone selling inbound leads:
- If you’re experts in inbound marketing, why are you advertising with cold messages using outbound sales?
- If you can’t depend on inbound marketing for yourself, how can I depend on inbound marketing for myself?
- Forget inbound marketing, you’re not even doing outbound marketing! You’re doing hardcore cold outbound sales.
Takeaway
Most inbound marketing is just old outbound sales in new wineskins.
There’s no shame in leveraging outbound marketing.
What’s shameful is going outbound and calling it inbound.
Tell me how you’d react to cold messages like this.
