Cranium > Stadium
Thu, Aug 13, 2020
A recent watch session on YouTube left me battling an earworm.
Kanwer Singh aka Humble the Poet, a Canadian YouTuber, began his videos with the following catchy intro:
“I’ve got 10 years to fill a stadium, but only 2 minutes to fill your cranium.”
As these words burned in my brain, it sparked a fresh marketing revelation.
While it’s important to have a 5-year marketing plan, it is equally (if not more) important to have a 5-minute one.
Though I’d watched many of Humble’s longer videos earlier, it was this short intro line that gripped me, eventually leading me to buy a book he published many moons later.
If he had not successfully captivated me with a smaller offering in the first few minutes, it’s unlikely he would have sold me on a bigger one later on.
As marketers, we too need to pay special attention to what customers see in the first few minutes they interact with our brand.
Captivating them with personalized email, web, and social content in this short window will leave the door open for larger and lovelier interactions later on.
You’ve got seconds to grab your audience’s attention and only minutes to keep it.
