LinkedIn Learning 2: Humblebrag to hero brag
Tue, Jun 15, 2021
Even bragging has two sides to its coin!
These days, I’m seeing a few LinkedIn posts from folks who are leaving their current jobs for better pastures.
Most of these posts are heartening to read, but some raise a few eyebrows.
While the goal is to update everyone about the job change, thank colleagues, and tag new friends, some manage to make it all about themselves.
They list out their accomplishments (and sometimes even take credit for what the company did) and showcase their recently acquired skills.
But, this shortcut to sell oneself leaves a bad impression on the reader’s mind.
Actually, this is a great opportunity to acknowledge your team, leadership, and clients.
If done right, such a marketing stance would endear the author to us and make us wish for such a team player.
The truth is that most people can see right through these posts – whether it’s a selfish humblebrag or a gracious brag about true heroes at work.
