Lesson @ Lion’s Den
Wed, Apr 28, 2021
Last week, I learned a valuable lesson while at the business plan competition, Lion’s Den, in Dallas.
Wade Myers was sharing his experience in building great teams and narrated how many investors wanted him to hire certain Wall Street CFOs regardless of whether their domain knowledge was a match for his company.
He explained how the CFO of a $30 billion company was almost clueless about managing finance for a SaaS company in the dot com era.
One Friday evening, he received a text saying that money for payroll would run out by the coming Tuesday.
As a CEO, Wade taught about the importance of hiring right – hiring slow and firing fast.
This made me wonder why most segmentation work is done only for clients and not for internal hires.
Friends, colleagues, or investors may recommend hires but ideally we should have segmented profiles for these roles.
Segment and aim for the right fit instead of just brand names and P&L responsibilities.
