What else is COVID-19 killing?
Mon, Apr 06, 2020
I’ve had an increase in marketing inquiries this past week, ever since social distancing became the most acceptable social trend since social media.
They all ask the same question. “Can you help me run a digital marketing campaign ASAP?”
“And what about the marketing strategy that will drive this campaign?” I ask.
“We don’t have time for strategizing now. Just run a campaign now. We can do the strategy later,” comes the instant response.
I’ve started wishing that these calls would maintain a social distance of at least 6 days from each other for my sanity’s sake!
When you went shopping for a new car, did you buy the first car you laid your eyes on at the dealership?
When you bought a home, did you check out open homes without budgeting your finance or planning your needs?
When you went on vacation, did you head to the airport and surprise yourself with a destination that had an available seat that day?
No. You didn’t.
You thought through your needs, the fit, the range, compatibility, and many other factors before you stepped outside your home.
Why should your digital marketing campaign be any different? Remember, the more you spend strategizing, the less you will spend campaigning.
What the Coronavirus is killing is not just human lives but marketing itself. People and brands who weren’t digitally inclined are now rushing toward digital campaigns.
But without a well-thought-out strategy, 95%+ of those digital campaigns are going to die soon.
