David, the anointed future king of Israel, was gathering an army unto himself.
As 337,100 mighty men from Israel’s 12 tribes joined him, one tribe stood out.
- There were just 200 chiefs from the tribe of Issachar, unlike other tribes that sent thousands of their warriors to David.
- While the chapter talks only about the warrior count of most tribes, Issachar gets an additional mention of their special ability to understand the times and know what to do.
Even David knew the value of listening to and learning from strategists – these sons of Issachar – who could sum up the times and strategize for action.
