Tick tock, tick tock!

Last month, I turned 35.

The Bible says in Ps 90:10 that the days of our lives are 70 years, 80 if strength endures. Assuming that the average lifespan is around 70 years, I am now at my life’s midpoint.

I have 12,743 days or 1,821 weeks left. These too will disappear in a flash, and soon God will ask me for the ROI on the talents He gave me.

When life is viewed in such a light, decisions appear to have higher stakes. I know I will take some wrong turns and make mistakes, but I can’t afford to go in the wrong direction and lose the plot.

We often plan marketing campaigns with too many uncertainties and dependencies.

Sometimes we can’t plan better because we need more ‘info’ to forecast better.

In those cases, just work backward from the clock’s final tick and decisions will be easier to make.

Decrease the choices and failure points. Increase the focus and stakes.

Plan the journey fast and get started. We will always get time to evaluate, replan, and pivot on the way.

God didn’t give Kobe Bryant that average lifespan. He never turned 42.

I rented the breath I just took.

Takeaway

  1. How many times can your marketing campaign afford to fail before it succeeds?
  2. Are you measuring your marketing effectiveness by days, weeks, or months?
  3. Are you working backward keeping an eye on the clock and the big picture?
