The opposite of marketing

I often ask people what they think the opposite of marketing is.

Some responses I hear are:

– Not doing marketing

– Not doing anything

– Apathy

Not doing marketing, in my opinion, is not the opposite of marketing. That is merely the absence of marketing.

The opposite would be doing something similar to what everyone else is doing.

– They roll out a blog; we write weekly.

– They engage on social media; just tweeted!

– They have a website; we’re on the web, too.

– They run an ad campaign; been there, done that!

The opposite would be mediocrity.

Marketing’s whole need and purpose is to help your brand be unique, head and shoulders above the rest, easy to be loyal to, and in a niche of its own.

Being just like everyone else and then expecting a majority to fall in love with you over others – well, that’s not marketing.

That’s the opposite of sanity!

Turn down mediocrity in all its forms!

Takeaway

  1. Is there a chasm between marketing and mediocrity in your ministry?
  2. How can you bridge this gap to overcome mediocrity in marketing?
