Selling Manna
Wed, Jun 10, 2020
What’s the selling equivalent of Marketing Manna?
Selling Manna? NOT. AT. ALL.
I began my career in sales. After a year, I asked for a change in title from Sales Executive to Service Executive.
Sales implies that you’re going to be sold to – I’m going to sell you what my brand sells regardless of your needs.
Service implies that you’re going to be taken care of – I’m going to serve your needs regardless of what my brand sells.
If what my brand sells serves your needs well, that’s great!
If not, by serving you, I’d have sold you on trusting me and turning to me whenever you need to be served or even offered a solution.
Ideally, the title of this manna should have been ‘Serving Manna’.
The best salespeople are service people because if you have to sell something, you should only sell yourself, not what you’re selling.
Service has more in common with selling an identity than it does with selling a product.
Takeaway
- Are you selling or serving?
- If you’re selling, are you ready to serve instead and see the change?
