Why How > What

Yesterday, I talked about what I learned from my first boss at OneHope.

Today, I wanted to share the biggest gem my other boss at OneHope taught me, which I’ve guarded carefully as a marketing mantra.

At 6’6”, Chad Causey, the Chief Strategy Officer at OneHope, towers over people in general and messaging in particular. The clarity in his voice has been a force that fights for OneHope to be at the leading, not lagging, end of the ministry world.

In 2017, while working on a presentation for him, he told me, “These days, how you say something matters as much as, or sometimes more than, what you actually have to say.”

Gold dust!

Many ministries have built great Ferrari F50s that are lying in their garages, unseen by the people who would love to see them. This is because their messaging often makes us think it’s just another Ford Focus behind the doors, causing us to move on.

Make sure you have finished speaking before your audience has finished listening.

How careful are you with your messaging to ensure that your audience is not just engaged but also enthralled?
