Why what you don’t do matters
Thu, Apr 09, 2020
In my opinion, knowing what you don’t and won’t do is what will help you win.
Most people in your target market will easily form an idea of what you do, but very few people will know what you are not willing to do.
As a strategic marketing partner for ministries, 40 Parables occasionally gets inquiries for everything from creating a website to the price for a retainer agreement. What we are increasingly trying to do is to declare what within marketing we will not do as much as what we will do.
Why?
1. It helps to attract only the right interest and inquiries, saving both them and us valuable time.
2. It helps to position us better in the ministry marketing intersection among many other vendors.
3. It helps our team to be reminded of our focus and also to be unaffected by any shiny distractions.
I like being straightforward. We can deal with anything as long as it's on the table.
Takeaway
- How clearly are you stating what you don’t do and what you do?
- Are inquiries coming in for non-core services that you can do but don’t?
- Is your team absolutely aligned on what you do and what you won’t?
