Most people refer to the nation that Christopher Columbus discovered, as “America.”

However, even kids know that this description isn’t entirely accurate, because there are many other regions that are also referred to as America. 

In fact, there are two continents in America itself.

Often, people refer to this nation as “the US” or “USA”, because using acronyms is easier.

Even “the US” isn’t distinct enough, because other nations like Mexico (officially called the United Mexican States or Estados Unidos Mexicanos), also carry the United States bit in their name.

But, my belief is that the real distinctive value of this nation is not brought to life in any of these above mentioned descriptors. 

It is in the mention of the 50 American states that are united to be known together as “the United States of America.”

And if these states are not united, technically, you are starting to bite away at what is the core of the USA.

You will also be taking for granted what it meant to be liberated from British rule to become an independent nation.

As the USA celebrates its 246th birthday today, I hope that there is more unity than division in the future of this nation, so that it can live up to its name, literally!
