Talking to you v with you
Wed, Aug 18, 2021
Filling a U.S. visa form for my family has taught me much more than immigration procedures.
It has made me realize the difference between talking to you versus talking with you.
The form had an option for an interpreter to fill the form for me.
That reminded me of certain LinkedIn profiles whose bios were written in the third person.
I’m blown when I read descriptions that start with “John is a proven manager…” or “Mary is a seasoned entrepreneur…”
Why would we not want to talk in the first person to those who’re taking the time to read our profiles and getting to know us better?
Don’t make them feel like there’s another person or interpreter between you and them.
In the process of trying to roll out convincing content, don’t miss the opportunity to have a real conversation with your prospects.
Else you’ll needlessly be wasting the visa to get into their hearts and minds.
Takeaway
Is your profile on social media written in the first person or third person? I’d like to know!
