Seeing is NOT always believing
Tue, May 12, 2020
When we were young, we thought that the sun went around the earth.
We were sure of it because we saw it for ourselves, with our own eyes.
As we got older, we were taught that the earth went around the sun.
If seeing was always believing, we would have never abided by that teaching.
Marketing’s goal is never to make you buy the offering – that’s what sales does.
Marketing’s goal is to make you question the status quo, challenge your thinking, open your eyes, and visualize the benefits of the change.
To get us to agree that the earth goes around the sun, our teachers marketed that notion to us by teaching us about space, not just telling us to accept an unbelievable claim that the earth went around the sun.
The aim of marketing is to make selling superfluous.
Takeaway
- What fundamental belief is your marketing working hard to upend?
- Is your sales team trying to do the job of your marketing team?
- Is there a chance that you are only selling and not marketing?
