In the name of

Name it, you got it!

This marketing formula took years for brands to comprehend despite knowing how we humans react to names.

Yell “John” when in a crowd, and you’ll surely see a few heads turn.

Mention “Jenny” softly when people are quiet, and heads will perk up.

There’s something powerful about invoking a name and yet brands were (and are often still) so slow to capitalize on it.

That’s why Coca-Cola changed the name game when it decided to go over the top, down under!

In 2011, Coke introduced the “Share a Coke with…” campaign by having millions of bottles printed with 150 most popular Aussie names.

Their usual purchasing crowd of 23 million people bought a staggering 250 million bottles during the campaign, and suddenly personalization became popular.

Today, subject lines and email content have proved that conversion rates can jump when people are addressed by their names when you converse with them.

Yet, many of us often engage people as if they are s(he) who shall not be named!

Takeaway

If you want people to respond, start calling them by their names.

Are you taking advantage of personalization?
If so, Let me know how it’s going for you.

It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.
