Budget & belief
Thu, May 06, 2021
For many people, Sunday sermons are many different things.
For me, it’s a great battlefield where my beliefs are challenged.
It’s a hallowed ground where my faith in Christ is weekly both beaten to the ground and then born again.
It’s like the gym where the muscles are crushed before they grow back bigger.
But the common adage about real faith and belief is well captured by the claim, “Show me how you behave and I’ll show you what you believe.”
This principle easily carries over to marketing as well.
I hear countless people (and prospects) who say that they want to market (when they mostly mean sell) well.
My eyes have learned not to light up because of the reality that follows.
I then ask them what their commitment to marketing is in terms of time, personnel, and importantly budget.
I soon realize that some time, little capacity, and no budget is available for marketing.
That’s why I edited the adage to say, “Show me your budget for marketing and I’ll show you what you believe about marketing.”
Takeaway
Tell me what your budget says about your belief.
