Marriages & Marketing
Thu, Dec 08, 2022
Know why marketing and marriages are complicated, yet connected?
What you’ll need for this exercise: A timer, a pen, and a paper
- Start the timer
- Write 10 bad things about your spouse
- Stop the timer when you reach 10, or as close to 10 as possible
- Reset the timer and take a 30-second break
- Start the timer again
- Write 10 good things about your spouse
- Stop the timer when you reach 10, or as close to 10 as possible.
Were you able to quickly write 10 bad things or 10 good things about your spouse?
Did you need more time to write the bad things or more time to write the good things?
Most people will find it easier to criticize their spouse rather than appreciate them.
They are also likely to need more time to appreciate than criticize.
That’s why marriages aren’t easy.
That’s also why marketing isn’t easy.
We remember the bad things about other people and brands far more than the good things we remember about them.
As a husband and brand marketer, I should remember that 1 good deed and 1 bad deed are rarely weighted the same way.
Sadly, the bad deeds can often cause a bigger impact and last longer than the good deeds can.
Takeaway
If you have a spouse, do you agree? I’d love to know!
