A car was veering dangerously onto our lane in the morning as I took my kids to daycare. 

As the driver continued steering without looking where she was headed, my voice got louder inside the car as I yelled, “Hey, hey, hey…”

Somehow, she stopped in time, but not before Caleb asked, “Dad, who were you saying “Hey, hey, hey to?”

“The lady who was driving that car,” I replied.

“Why? You know that she can’t hear you from here, right?” he quipped.

“Yes, you are right.” I answered, as I wondered what was coming next.

“Why then are you doing things that don’t make any sense?” he asked, in a quiet voice that thundered loudly.

Technically, he was right. 

Humans are irrational beings. 

We scream while we experience turbulence in the sky, as if it can do any good. 

We sell when the stock market crashes, even though we know that we should buy at that time.

“Well, I did it out of habit.” I mustered up some kind of a response to his challenging question.

“Habit? what’s a habit?” he asked, as I found a distraction to escape from this conversation.
