Diet Coke Zero
Fri, May 28, 2021
What’s the real difference between Diet Coke and Coke Zero?
I was out for a lunch meeting with a client, and she ordered Diet Coke with her food.
They only had Coke Zero, so she said she didn’t want it.
“Are you willing to give up a can of coke you wanted just because they have Coke Zero instead of Diet Coke? Aren’t they the same?” I asked, a bit puzzled.Â
“They taste very similar, but I feel that Coke Zero is a lot more masculine and feels like it’s for men while Diet Coke seems like it’s my type,” she said.
“Plus, are they the same? Don’t they have different ingredients?” she seemed puzzled.Â

“They have the same ingredients except for one chemical. Both have zero calories and zero sugar. Coke Zero contains sodium citrate, which makes it taste like the regular Coke, while Diet Coke contains citric acid, which gives it a lighter taste,” the professor in me replied.
“Hmm, maybe I prefer Diet Coke because of the color of the bottle!” she concluded.
“Bingo!” the marketer in me exclaimed!
