Bumblebee branding

About 20% of my daily posts are inspired by Caleb, my 3-year-old.

Every week he comes up with at least one interesting take on the world, which I find compelling enough to turn into a daily manna.

This week I’ve decided to write about his young view of the world.

Recently he asked me a question about his transformer toy.

“Dad, is he called Bumblebee because he bumps into bees?” he asked.

“No, he’s called Bumblebee because of his black and yellow attire, which resembles an actual bumblebee,” I replied.

“Interesting!” he mumbled while still in deep thought about its name.

Bingo! That’s exactly what a good brand name is supposed to do.

It’s meant to get prospects to ask why it was named that way and what the story behind the brand is. It’s also meant to draw them away from other brands that lack strong brand identities.

Takeaway

Replace the mediocrity in your brand name with a mystery that attracts the attention of your prospects.

Do people stop and ask you what your brand name means? If not, are you missing an opportunity with your branding? Comment here.

If I'm gonna tell a real story, I'm gonna start with my name.
