Death by scrolling

Small brands often wonder how they can beat the big brands who have a lot more budget and backing.

I hate to highlight others’ errors as I have a ton of faults myself, but this one deserves some attention because:

  1. It’s that bad!
  2. Inc. is a big brand and can handle it
  3. Small brands need to see more of this to believe it

Shown below is a screenshot of a page on Inc.’s website.??

As I try to read an article, I’m bombarded by invitations to read 5 other totally disconnected blogs posts, 2 random Google ads, and 1 internal video ad running on autoplay that’s promoting an unrelated article.

The blue box fences the entire screen, and the red box shows the actual area of the page that’s dedicated to the article I clicked to read.

The red box is exactly a mere 11% of the blue box.

There are many ways to die, but death by scrolling will destroy the content creator more than the consumer.

Takeaway

Scrolling is a double-edged sword. If I’m enjoying the content, it’s razor-sharp. If you force me to scroll, you’ll die by your own sword.

I’d love to know what comes to your mind when you see this image.

I'm happy to scroll a lot more if it means that I can see a lot more ads.

No one ever!
