Yesterday, I talked about how a strategic David avoided a fatal mistake against Goliath.

But I can’t say the same about Goliath.

As Goliath approached him, David ran toward Goliath and slung a stone that struck his forehead before sinking in and killing him. 

But why was Goliath’s forehead unprotected in the first place?

In 1 Sam 17:6, the first item mentioned about Goliath’s armor is his bronze helmet.

In ancient times, helmets were strong and fit well over the forehead to minimize injury.

A Google search for ‘ancient helmet’ will reveal how it was practically impossible for Goliath to die this way if he was wearing his helmet. 

1 Sam 17:41 narrates how Goliath the giant derided and disparaged a short David when he saw that the latter was just a boy with only a sling and no sword or armor.

It’s highly possible that Goliath took his opponent lightly and took off his helmet, gifting David a strategy for success.
