After David convinced King Saul to let him fight Goliath, he strategically avoided a fatal mistake just before the battle began.
1 Sam 17:38–40 narrates how King Saul blessed David and dressed him in his own royal battle gear, complete with his armor and helmet.
David fastened the sword over the armor and tried to walk but couldn’t and said, “I cannot go with these because I am not used to them.”
David then removed the whole attire, retrieved his shepherd’s staff, his sling, and five smooth stones, and then approached Goliath.
Often, in trying situations when defeat looks certain, we tend to follow the leader and comply with the norm.
David refused the king of Israel’s strategy and instead played to his strengths regardless of his opponent or circumstance.
Strategy is about making choices, trade-offs; it’s about deliberately choosing to be different.
