Signal vs. Noise

A blog subscriber asked a concerned but interesting question.

“Why do you publish posts even on national holidays? It’s not like people are working on those days.”

“Do the other blogs you subscribe to publish posts on national holidays?,” I quipped back.

“Very few and very rarely,” he confirmed.

“Precisely my point,” I smiled as I responded.

“What do you mean?,” he asked, confused.

“Do you check your inbox on national holidays?,” I asked.

“Sometimes,” he affirmed.

“So on those days – which are a dozen a year – what are the chances you will see my blog posts compared to the other blog posts you are subscribed to?,” I asked.

“Very high! In fact, that’s why I’m asking you about it.”

“Those dozen days are the days with no traffic on the email highways. Very few bloggers are posting content then. On those days, all the sound you hear will be from my motorcycle. On all other days, that sound may get muffled along with other noises. On these dozen days, they are signals which clear the clutter and signal my messaging and marketing,” I explained.

Takeaway

If you don’t aim to stand out as a signal, you will be muffled along with other noises.

How are you standing out and clearing the clutter? Do share!

If you want to be outstanding, you have to get away from the crowd.
