Caleb turned 5 on Monday, but we celebrated his special day with his friends over the weekend. 

I was supposed to give him a gift on Monday, and so I asked him what he wanted. 

He said he wanted a water gun and pulled up an image of one that he liked on my phone. 

I told him that it wasn’t readily available in any store and so we would have to order it online, and wait until it arrived the next day. 

He was a bit sad, but went to school on Monday and was looking forward to getting it on Tuesday. 

And then, something exciting happened!

I saw that Amazon was offering a same-day delivery option for an extra $2.99, and so I placed an order for Caleb’s gift at 10 a.m., and it arrived home by 3.30 p.m.

When I picked Caleb up in the evening, he was blown away on seeing that the gift he thought he would get only on Tuesday had already arrived before he returned home from school.

To add to the surprise, I’d bought a pair for both of us to play together, so that even though we were fighting, we both were truly winning!

Amazon didn’t just let me shop at my convenience. 

It helped me move fast to transform a potentially sad situation into a relationally binding celebration.
