Extreme Ownership
Fri, Jan 21, 2022
Recently, a team member told me the greatest news any business owner could ever expect to hear.
The message was politely worded as, “See, I know that I’m not an owner of this company, but I really feel this is my company.”
At 40 Parables, there is no greater joy than to know that a team member is on the same page, and is moving forward with the founding vision and commander’s intent.
The best part of the above message is that through the pandemic, and as we transition from services to a product company, it would have been normal for team members to feel exactly the opposite.
Often, I’ve been asked why the path is starting to look different from the founding vision and I’ve taken the time to clarify that ‘Different isn’t drifting’.
However, through it all, if this team member had to express their perception of company ownership, despite not being one on paper, it can be attributed to:
- The grace of God
- Our demand that every team member believe in the same purpose as we do
- Our belief that every team member must be valued, loved, and taken care of
- Our genuine attempt to help every team member develop and exercise extreme ownership
- Our desire to pay a fair wage that honors the team member and dignifies his/her skill
